ANNUAL TOWN MEETING AND COMMUNITY AWARDS 2025

Canvey Island Town Council held its Annual Town Meeting and awards ceremony on Monday 10th March 2025 and residents had the opportunity to speak to Town Councillors about the Town Council’s activities during the year.

For the Town Council’s Community Awards, nominations were received under the categories of Citizen of the Year, Young Person of the Year, Community Group of the Year, Best Community Contribution from a Local Business and Youth Community Group of the Year.

Lin Ridgewell was successful as Citizen of the Year for being a huge support at Smallgains social club. Young person of the year was presented to Frankie Wise who did his very best to perform CPR on a resident that had suffered a cardiac arrest. Community Group of the Year was won by the Phoenix Club for many reasons; however, a collective appreciation of the safe space they provide for their members was widely mentioned. The Best Community Contribution from a Local Business was awarded to the Morrisons Community Champion, for the awareness and contributions raised towards several local organisations and charities, and the Youth Community Group of the Year was awarded to Mini Kickers who voluntarily provide football training to up to the ages of 7.

Town Mayor Councillor Peter May said “I am very proud to have been able to present these well-deserved awards. The Town Council is pleased to be able to recognise the efforts of all these individuals, groups, and businesses. I would like to thank everyone for coming and all your continued support of the Town Council.”
